ZOMG! Metroid Samus Aran Figma Figure!

If you owned a NES (Nintendo Entertainment System), Famicom (Nintendo Family Computer) or a Game Boy in ancient history, you should know and love Metroid and Samus Aran. Samus, for me, can be included as one of the notable characters in the Nintendo world along with Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda and Link.

Ever since the day I played the game, I wished for awesome Metroid/Samus figures, and I rarely see high quality ones, well, not until today. Thank God for Figma! Under Max Factory, known for creating high quality, highly articulated, detailed, and accurate action figures (same as Revoltech). You may know some of their figures mostly come from characters in Mangas and Animes.

Here are some shots of the new Metroid line from Figma from Toyark page:

WARNING: NERDGASM ALERT!

Metroid Samus Aran 1Metroid Samus Aran 2

Metroid Samus Aran 3Metroid Samus Aran 4

Now pull yourself together!

I KNOW!!!!!

Shut up and take my money!

The Figma figures will be released in June 2012, and will cost around ¥3800 (Japanese Yen) a pop, or around $48+ USD or here in the Philippines P2000+ PHP (depending on the exchange rates).

You can check more other collectibles and news about toys and action figures in the Toyark site HERE.

Happy New Year! 2012: The End And The Mayans

Happy New Year guys!!! This would be my first post for the year! And what topic would best suit the year? It would be the, so to speak “2012 end of the world year” (thank you 2012 movie and the awesome/exceptional limousine driving skills of John Cusack). Now stop hiding under your table! Snap back to reality and focus on real problems you need to address in your life this year.

This may help you get back in track and get a hold of yourself for crying out loud. This is a comic of what may have happened with the Mayans and their calendar, I saw this couple of years ago and just remembered it would be great for this year’s New Year-greeting. Titled “Countdown to Catastrophe”, it was made by the creative and talented cartoonist Dan Piraro (Bizzaro.com).

Countdown to Catastrophe by Dan PiraroAfter seeing this, suddenly all falls into place. You can read more of his works, funny comics, and also cool merchandise in Bizzarocomics.com and Bizzaro.com.

Now here’s a video from C.G.P. Grey’s YouTube channel titled “2012 & The End Of The World”, that can beat some sense out of you:

The guy has a point huh? You can check out more interesting videos and topics from CGP Grey YouTube page HERE and website HERE.

A Geek In Need Is A Friend Indeed: Help An Artist

Very talented artist Madéleine Flores, the pen and the mind behind the ‘The Girl and the Gorilla’ comic book, experienced an unpleasant incident just before the holidays. She was badly injured after fainting and hit her head and neck. She is ok but still recovering. Currently, she is raising additional funds for her hospital bills by selling her awesome creations and commissioning art works (on a discounted price).

She writes many comic strips on her blog too. Here are some of her works (with permission of course) which I really find funny and geeky:

Wolverine’s Secret

Merry Batmas

You can help through this list from her post:

1. Comics – collections of her best Black and White comics she posts in her site.

2. Commissions – commission works which she lowered from $20 to $10!

3. Donations – you can donate a couple of dollars and she will personally send you an
amazing digital animal drawing.

4. Prints

5. Digital Comics – A comic that wasn’t published online titled Once Upon a 4 O’Clock in the Afternoon.

Let’s start the new year with a helping hand! You can also help out by sharing the information and spearding the word.

You can check out and share her post about this topic HERE. And for more information, details, samples of her works,  or to contact her you can checkout her site: Little Love Monster

How To Help Typhoon Sendong Victims In The Philippines

Pray for Mindanao BigLast week another tropical storm caught hit us with unimaginable force and unbearable amount of rain. Sendong (Washi – International Name), evidently rekindled the dreadful events of the 2009 Ondoy incident, as it hit the southern part of our country leaving most parts of Mindanao in state of calamity. It’s sad to think about that for the past years we always see our nation go against the odds right before our most loved season, which is Christmas.

As I have watched the news earlier today the current casualties, more or less reached 1000 already. In addition according to Red Cross’ site it affected 13,924 families, leaving 245 injured, and 807 reported missing. 38,332 persons are still housed in evacuation centers across the region.

I have collated some options that you can do to help Sendong victims (click on the link of the medium you want to use and for more details on how to donate). You could help through:

1.   The Philippine Red Cross – They have lots of options for you to share any resources you can share, in cash or in-kind. They have online donation via Master Card, different bank accounts, Megalink, GreenPeso – PayPal, Bancnet, and GCash.

2. Donate via SMS (Under Red Cross)

  • SMS: Text RED<space>AMOUNT to 2899 (Globe) or 4143 (Smart)
  • G-Cash: Text DONATE<space>AMOUNT<space>4-digit M-PIN<space>REDCROSS to  2882

You can donate the following denominations:

Globe: 5, 25, 100, 300, 500 or 1000
Smart: 10, 25, 50, 100, 300, 500 or 1000

3. Department of Social Welfare and Development – The DSWD, has many options as well, aside from donations, they are also accepting volunteer workers.

4. ABS CBN Sagip Kapamilya – you can send your donation directly at their office or through these banks BDO, PNB, BPI.

5. GMA Kapuso Foundation – is accepting donations in cash or in-kind but it is preferred to give cash, since, as mentioned the donated relief goods are repacked on site. You could use any branch of UCPB, Metrobank, and Cebuana Lhuiller.

6. The Citizens’ Disaster Response Center (CDRC) – is a non-government organization involved in assistance and disaster management. Aside from donations, they are accepting volunteers as well.

7. National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council – The NDRRMC, has many options as well, aside from donations, they are also accepting volunteer workers.

8. LBC - LBC Accepts Donations for CDO Iligan Victims.  This information was shared by sir Crisostomo in the comments section, I added it on the list.

9. You can also coordinate with your offices, schools, and local barangay officials. By this time most of them have outreach and or assistance programs/committee setup specifically for Sendong victims that can accommodate your donations and services.

I have created simple posters and avatars which you can freely use on your blog and other social media sites. You can link it to any of the items I mentioned above or if you have a different link you can use it as well. You can also use them as profile pictures, avatars, or icons to promote the cause.

This is an opportunity for each and every one of us to help our brothers and sisters, our kababayans that were greatly affected by this unfortunate event.  Let us lend our hand and extend the true meaning of Christmas.

There are much more ways for us to help, even the simple ones matter and can make a huge difference. It’s not about what we give or to what extent.   As I remember in one of Bishop Soc Villegas’ homilies, he mentioned that the value of giving is not on how many or how much you give, but rather on how much you leave behind.

The “World Finest” Hair Gel

I was searching for a new hair gel at our local supermarket and found the coolest gel ever created. I could even say “World’s Finest” if you know what I mean.  Check it out:

World's Finest Gel

So this may be Clark Kent’s secret when he changes costume and fixes his hair so that no one would recognize him. On the contrary I think that the gel would be more useful to Batman’s alter ego, Bruce Wayne since he is wearing a cowled suit.

For those non comic book fans, World’s Finest (initially World’s Best Comics) is a comic book series published by DC where in the stories usually involves two of the main stars of the franchise, Superman and Batman (hence the gel pun).  The cover below is one of the early versions of their team up.

World's Best Comics #1The popularity of the stories also created a lot of titles outside the comic book genre. One of my favorites is the animated series crossover in the Superman The Animated Series which was set just before the story of The New Batman Adventures series. The 3-part story (episodes #29-31) had the same title, “World’s Finest”.

Superman and BatmanSuperman and Batman from the animated series.

Bruce Wayne and Clark KentBruce Wayne and Clark Kent from the animated series.

The newer team up of the epic characters, is now under the Supeman/Batman comic book series (#8 cover below), which also spawned direct-to-video animated movies.
